Nesterenko: Feith not competent for adoption of strategy for northern Kosovo
The adoption of the "Strategy for the North of Kosovo is not within the competence of EU Special Representative Pieter Feith, said representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Andrei Nesterenko, stating that at issue is exclusively a private initiative. This document was developed by the office of Feith, who consider an international civilian representative by countries supporting Kosovo’s independence, said Nesterenko and reminded of the leading role the UN Security Council in Kosovo. The Russian official said that Moscow does not regard as legitimate the institution of the international civilian representative that is based on the Ahtisaari plan, which was not approved by the UN Security Council. "The Strategy for the North of Kosovo” is not harmonized even within the EU, said Nesterenko assessing that patrons of Pristina still hope that, outside of international legal procedures, they can impose the concept of an independent Kosovo onto Serbs in the province. This approach carries a rather remarkable potential for conflicts, said Nesterenko.
